Adult Day Program
A Program Built Around the Individual
No two members are exactly alike, and their days shouldn't have to look exactly alike either.
Programming is person-centered and developed around each member's abilities, interests, preferences, and goals. Members are encouraged and supported to have input into what they do, what they work toward, and how they spend their day.
Programming may include:
• Independent and daily living skills
• Communication and self-advocacy
• Creative arts and enrichment
• Academic and continued learning opportunities
• Volunteer and service experiences
• Community participation and exploration
• Recreation, leisure, and wellness
• Social opportunities and relationship building
• Personal projects and individual interests
• Household and community-based skills
The goal isn't simply to keep people busy. We want activities and experiences to have purpose and meaning for the individual.
Communication Matters
We believe every member has something to communicate and deserves meaningful opportunities to be heard.
ACE Institute staff respect each member's established communication method and provide the time, accommodations, and support needed to express choices, ideas, needs, interests, and opinions.
Communication is incorporated throughout the day - not treated as something that only happens during a designated activity. Members are encouraged to have input into their schedules, outings, projects, goals, volunteer experiences, and other aspects of their program.
Adult Experiences With the Right Support
Adults with disabilities deserve access to meaningful, age-appropriate experiences within their communities.
Needing additional support should not automatically mean being excluded from an opportunity. When possible, our approach is to ask: “How can we adapt this experience so this person can meaningfully participate?”
Staff work to provide individualized supports, accommodations, and adaptations that help members access experiences while respecting their dignity, preferences, and abilities.
Community Connection
Our facility provides a home base for learning, connection, skill development, and individualized programming - but meaningful adult life extends beyond the walls of ACE Institute.
Based on individual interests and goals, community experiences may include shopping, recreation, libraries, cultural activities, restaurants, community events, volunteering, and other opportunities.
Community participation gives members the opportunity to practice skills in natural environments, explore new interests, build confidence, develop relationships, and strengthen their connection to the community.
Our Philosophy
At ACE Institute, we believe a disability should not determine the limits of a person's opportunities.
Our role is to recognize each member's abilities, provide appropriate support, remove barriers when possible, and create opportunities for continued learning, participation, connection, and growth throughout adulthood.
We want families to know that their loved one is more than a diagnosis or a list of support needs. They are an adult with individual interests, preferences, abilities, relationships, goals, and a voice that deserves to be heard.
